Shortened Release Cycles for a Property Management Web Platform with Automated Testing

Our team built a BDD test automation framework that shortened the release cycle of a fast-growing Proptech company’s leasing platform by 60%.

Overview

Testing and quality assurance take up a large part of the software development lifecycle. If the development timeline is 4 months, for example, 20 to 40% of that time goes into testing and QA, and sometimes more when the team relies on manual testing. When testing is automated, tests run faster and the release cycle gets shorter.

One of our clients, a fast-growing Proptech company that offers a leasing and asset management platform, was struggling with long, manual testing and QA cycles. Let’s see how our team implemented an automated testing framework that sped up test execution, expanded coverage across critical workflows, and shortened the overall release cycle.

Challenges

Managing high-value commercial properties takes more than basic property management software. Our client runs a leasing and asset management platform for landlords who own office buildings and shopping malls in one of the biggest metropolitan cities.

The platform is built on a single core and can be customized for each landlord’s property types, operational models, and legal requirements. However, every configuration introduced its own workflows and UI behavior, and each one had to be validated consistently across deployments. As the number of configurations grew, manual testing made regression cycles longer and limited how quickly the team could release updates. Here’s why manual testing was holding the testing team back:

  • High variability across properties: leasing rules, tenant profiles, and asset management workflows differed a lot between office spaces and high-street retail properties, so the number of test scenarios kept growing.
  • Complex, configuration-driven workflows: the platform supported multiple operational models and legal requirements, so testing every business path consistently by hand took a long time.
  • UI-intensive critical workflows: the core leasing and asset management functions rely heavily on dynamic user interfaces, so testing needed deep UI coverage to prevent functional regressions.
  • Time-consuming manual testing cycles: manual regression testing slowed down release cycles and limited the team’s ability to support frequent product updates.

That’s when the client reached out to the DivIniSoft team for a test automation solution.

Two engineers reviewing a manual regression checklist and a property-management release dashboard on dual monitors, several checklist items still awaiting sign-off.
Before automation, every release waited on long cycles of manual regression testing.

Our Strategy

After analyzing the platform and its challenges, we decided to build a scalable testing foundation that could validate the different configurations while supporting faster, more reliable releases. For that, we implemented a testing framework based on a Behavior-Driven Development strategy.

Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) validates how an application behaves from a business point of view, rather than testing isolated technical components. For a leasing and asset management platform, this meant we could write test scenarios around real leasing workflows, tenant interactions, and asset management processes.

Each scenario described how the platform should behave for a specific property type, role, and set of operational rules. Because the test cases were written in a structured, business-readable format, the product, development, and testing teams stayed aligned. BDD also reuses common steps across scenarios, which makes it easier to grow test coverage as new configurations and features are added.

Our Solution

Let’s understand how we implemented the test automation strategy.

  1. 01

Define BDD Scenarios Around Expected Behavior

Our team analyzed the core leasing and asset management workflows across the different property types, landlord configurations, and user roles. We then wrote the test cases as behavior-driven scenarios, using Given, When, Then, to describe how the platform should behave under specific conditions.

  2. 02

Implement Reusable Step Definitions Using Reqnroll

The BDD scenarios were then mapped to reusable step definitions using Reqnroll, an open-source BDD framework for .NET. Common actions such as user authentication, navigation, data input, and validation were abstracted into modular components, so they could be reused across scenarios.

  3. 03

    Automate UI Workflows with Selenium

Our team integrated Selenium to automate end-to-end UI tests against the web platform in different browsers. The automation suite validated dynamic UI components, conditional rendering based on user roles, and configuration-driven behavior across the different property types.

  4. 04

    Integrate Allure Reporting

To give clear visibility into test runs and their results, we integrated Allure Report, an open-source test reporting tool, into the automation framework. Test results were presented in a structured, readable format that showed scenario coverage, pass and fail status, and execution trends.

Two engineers reviewing dual monitors showing a Given/When/Then BDD scenario report, all passing, beside a green deployment pipeline and automated test-results summary.
Automated BDD tests now run in the release pipeline, and the results show in a readable Allure report.

Business Outcomes

  • Improved the release cycle timeline by 60%, because automated regression tests validated new configurations much faster than manual testing.
  • Increased test coverage by 40%, as the standardized BDD scenarios made it faster to create test cases for new property setups without rewriting tests from scratch.
  • Improved collaboration between the business and tech teams, because the tests were written in clear, business-friendly language that everyone understood.
  • Enabled the Product Owner and Business Analysts to contribute to writing the test scenarios.
  • Increased release confidence, as automated tests ran continuously in the release pipeline and kept builds stable and the platform’s behavior predictable.

Conclusion

The testing framework stayed flexible, maintainable, and closely aligned with the platform’s evolving business logic. By building automation into the development and release process, we helped the client shorten its release cycles while keeping builds stable and quality high at every stage.
